a new day at midnight
Sorrowful Moon

Produced by Gray/McClune/Polson
Released through Warner/ RCA/ATO Records, 2002
Released Oct 28, 2002 UK, Nov 5, 2002 USA

Gray's sixth full length album came at a new time in Gray's Career.  Though Gray's previous full-length album released, Lost Songs (a compilation album entitled The EP's was sanwiched in between) was met with some of the local clamour created with the steady grassroots backing on White Ladder, A New Day at Midnight marked the first new release from the Welsh-born songwriter that was anticipated by the international music scene.  Though rumours of a 2001 release floated through DG circles during the White Ladder support gigs, the late 2002 date came nearly four years after the UK unveiling of the multi-platinum White Ladder.  The album is comprised both of songs written during the White Ladder tours and songs penned in Gray's idle time, preparing and working in the self-financed South London studios.  Gray contributes the 'darker' tone of the album much to the effect of his Father's death on him; much moreso than the sobering effect of stardom.
